klimt born vienna, austria 1862-1918 he was an austrian symbolist painter early in his career and then known for his highly decorative style and erotic nature of his works. he was in rebellion against the traditional academic art of his time. klimt never married but he fathered fourteen children with many of the women patrons he painted.
