1874-1946, age 72, born pittsburgh, pennsylvania usa. stein was an american novelist, poet, playwright and art collector. she moved to paris in 1906 remaining there for rest of her life where she hosted an avant garde literary salon in the 1920s where many emerging writers and artists attended.
