leonard bernstein - large portrait
american musical genius, composer, conductor, pianist and teacher. born in lawrence ma, the son of ukrainian jewish parents, in 1918. his score for 'westside story' and 'candide' are two of his best known works. he is credited with being the first generation of american trained classical music composers. died in new york in 1990, age 72 of heart attack.
