ieoh ming pei is a chinese-american architect. born in china 1917, son of a prominent banker. he came to the usa 1935 to study at university of pennsylvania, then at mit. after graduation, he taught at harvard. he was hired by the new york real estate magnate zeckendorf, and finally established i m pei & associates.  he was awarder the presidential medal of freedom and the pritzker prize in 1983. his office is an international company of highest order. his wife of 70 years was an architect, and his sons are architects. he is 96.
